Luxottica See What You're Missing

Walkabout Wednesday

Walkabout: “A spontaneous journey through the wilderness of one’s choosing in an effort to satisfy one’s itchy feet, a need to be elsewhere, the craving for the open road…Or maybe it just feels good to go walking around…”

– Crocodile Dundee

Walkabout Wednesday

While Luxottica’s Walkabout Wednesday isn’t through wilderness or along an open road, once a month Luxotticans combat complacency and routine by carving out time for associates to explore!  For 4 hours Luxottica becomes a ‘no meeting’ zone; outlook calendars are empty, conference rooms are abandoned and words like “agenda” and “PowerPoint” are taboo.

All over the campus, associates emerge from behind their desks, grab their badges and go on a walkabout.  There’s an opportunity to find a little bit of adventure–like finally getting to mosey down the Hall of Customer Letters sent in by Luxottica fans that many employees walk by never stop to read. Or heading down to the rumored “club” on the 2nd floor that boasts a disco ball and bar seating.

On the last walkabout, Luxottica Recruiter Tricia Nenni visited the workspace of the new honorary Associate, Hare-iet!

Early spring, a bunny took up residence in the green space around the Piazza and hasn’t left since. True to the inclusive culture, she became an instant team member and was even given her own desk in Corporate Communications.

Tricia also took the time to focus on Blue Chips, priority projects that often get sidelined when dealing with everyday business demands.  She plugged in her iPod and researched best recruiting practices during the digital age. “I learned a lot and took a huge leap forward on my project plan. I love working for a company that empowers me to free up my calendar for a highly productive afternoon.  Maybe next month I should do some spring cleaning.”
